Grandpa Munster

When I left Leith’s (the amazing friend who cuts and changes my hair) yesterday, there were obviously a few things I still had to work out. One of them was addressed this morning when I went back for “Emergency Hair-Do.” With all the platinum, there was an undesired Grandpa Munster situation around my ears. Even though it might have been the perfect look for Rocktober, Leith took care of that little problem with scissors. The other problem of how angry I am at America, well, that’s a little better too. I didn’t watch the debate. I couldn’t. That alone is a perfect indication of how angry I’ve been. Chris watched it for me and told me what he thought. From his vantage point, Bush’s constant one-message mantra worked on the crowd in the bar in Minneapolis where he watched.

Minneapolis bar goers choose Bush the winner. Now, when I lived in Minneapolis, it didn’t really strike me as Bush Country. I live 15 minutes from Bush Country, right? Could Bush Country really be that big? Isn’t Minnesota one of those “safe” states?

The good news is that John Stewart pretty much rolled his eyes the entire time he spoke with Rudy Giuliani during the live “Daily Show.” It was like John was saying, “Yeah, I know you’ve got to say this stuff, but I’m not going to pretend that I believe it here on my fake news show.” It was perfect–the fake news man can respond realistically to the spinner while the real news men and women can’t ever roll their eyes. It wouldn’t be professional. But when did allowing people to lie during “interviews” become a part of professional journalism?

As for the debate, I couldn’t bear to watch it either. I actually walked out of a restaurant to find one without a TV set. But I’m told there were some encouraging moments, such as one in which Bush said, “Saddam, I mean Osama”. If I were MoveOn, I’d blanket the airwaves with that one for the next few weeks.
