Greetings from District 10

Chris drove to Houston Wednesday afternoon. Sometime around 4:00, he called, saying, “150 miles and I just got to the end of District 10.” He was in Katy, currently the western outpost of Houston’s suburban sprawl. Texas Congressional District 10 goes from our house or so to Katy. Katy is the place on I-10 where you go to test drive SUVs. It’s deadly flat, the northern tip of the Gulf plain, nowater in sight. I’m pretty sure SUVs are unnecessary for Katy’s geologic topography but essential to it political terrain.District 10 used to be Austin. But Austin doesn’t get just one district now; it gets four. But Austin is not four times bigger than it used to be. Hmmm…

Lorenzo Sadun is our man for District 10. He’s the Democratic write-in candidate. Yes, that means we have to write him in. There is no Democrat I can just vote for in District 10. Our old Congressman, Lloyd Doggett, is running for District 25, which heads south to the Valley, where your red grapefuit come from. Lorenzo, who’s been endorsed by The Austin Chronicle, is a UT math professor and dad at Emma and Mazie’s school. I need to ask a poll worker to help me write him in if I can’t get the proper instructions online and remember them. Perhaps Lorenzo’s candidacy bodes well for my political aspirations; write-in candidates from Bryker Woods Elementary School might become just the thing for the Texas Democratic Party.

Chris just emailed me two maps of Texas Congressional Districts. I’m not sure how to link to them. I’ll figure it out and post them later. Looking at these maps, seeing what they did to Texans, what happened to our district, makes me want to cry. Please start forwarding this crazy blog to your friends. This is what happens when Texas style politics run their course.

In space, no one can hear you scream.

In Austin, no one has to bother with your vote. We won’t need a recount here because our votes already don’t count. That’s where this is all going. Make no mistake about it. That is the Republican agenda and Tom Delay is going to make it happen in your district not IF but WHEN he can.
